Not everything can handle the intense heat of soldering, but anything that can have a hole drilled in it can be riveted. In this 4-week course, students will learn to use rivets to join together pieces of metal, plastic, paper, and a variety of other materials. Multiple types of rivets will be covered in this course, including standard rivets, tube rivets, stilted rivets, and mortise-and-tenon joints. Through samples, material exploration, and a prompted project, students will gain a better understanding of the versatility of cold connections.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Metalsmithing and Jewelry or Metals + Jewelry 1

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
