Foundations in Fabrication: Fundamentals of the Jeweler’s Bench
Kyle Johnson | Mondays | 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm | September 8 - December 1*
*No class October 27
This beginner-friendly course introduces students to the core techniques of traditional jewelry making at the bench. Through structured skill-building and a final ring project, students will learn how to saw, drill, file, form, and solder metal with precision. In addition to hands-on techniques, the course also guides students through the process of design translation — learning how to take an idea from concept to paper, and from paper to scale. Students will explore how to draw their designs to scale and develop fabrication plans, building a deeper understanding of both technical execution and intentional design. No prior experience required — just curiosity and a steady hand.
No experience necessary.

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
