Waxworking 1 : Section B
J Diamond | Thursdays | 6:30 - 10:00 pm | January 16 - April 3
Casting, the transformation of a wax model into an identical metal reproduction, is the most widely used technique in jewelry today. This versatile method allows students to make visually exciting works of jewelry by experimenting with a limitless number of forms, textures and details. Through a series of demonstrations and lectures, students learn wax working skills and several casting processes, such as vacuum and cuttle-fish bone casting. Other techniques covered are: polishing, soldering, and mold-making. Slide presentations and discussions provide an overview of the historical and contemporary role of casting.
No experience necessary.

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
