Small Scale Gas Welding in Steel
April Wood | Thursdays | 6:30 - 10:00 pm | October 24 - November 14
Sign up deadline: Wednesday, October 9
We often think of welding as an industrial process, utilized on a large scale or for structural fabrication. This 4 week class will introduce students to the Smith Little Torch and oxy-acetylene welding on a jewelry scale. The torch set up and the mechanics of welding will be discussed, demonstrations of different types of joints and welding set ups will be shown, as well as creating surface textures with the torch. Students will use the skills learned in the creation of jewelry or small sculpture using wire and sheet mild steel. Prerequisite: Intro to Metals + Jewelry or equivalent experience.
$275 (includes $25 materials fee)
Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
