Powder coating is an industrial process used to create a hard finish on metal that is tougher than conventional paint. This technique provides the contemporary metalsmith or jeweler a new way to introduce color into their work. This class familiarizes students with the basics of sifting, dipping, and spraying powder coat as well as some of the more experimental methods of powder coating, including stenciling, applying sgraffito and underdrawings, and using resists while powder coating.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Metals + Jewelry or equivalent experience. Materials kit provided. Registration includes a $35 materials fee.
Tuition and fee for classes at the Baltimore are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to encourage more donations and subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
