Idea Generation (ONLINE)

Creating new work can be challenging, but there are many methods to generate new ideas. We will begin each class with student presentations discussing influences and past work. Each week, students will be given a different ideation challenge where they will create jewelry, objects, and drawings using easily accessible materials including food scraps, discarded objects, and materials found in nature. At the end of class, we will discuss the students’ outcomes as a group. These discussions, a low stakes environment, and an introduction to new ways of working can redirect your creative process and inspire new ways of thinking, working, and seeing. Students will document their processes and findings to create a final presentation that will be delivered at the end of class. Creating a compilation of experiments will help stimulate conversation amongst the group in addition to generating ideas for new work.

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
