Electro-Etching - 4 Weeks

This introductory class is perfect for those who want to learn and experiment with etching as a surface treatment for metal. In this 4-week class, we’ll learn how to incorporate 2d techniques of drawing, photography, and printmaking into your metal practice. The class will cover different electroetching methods, from asphaltum to pnp paper, and how to use both the saltwater and copper nitrate baths. Additionally, students will learn various finishing techniques for their etched pieces, including painting and patina. This class will focus on making samples to build confidence and a better understanding of electroetching.
Prerequisite: Intro to Metals + Jewelry or equivalent experience.
Materials Kit provided. Registration includes a $35 materials fee.
Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
