BJC Book Club

Andy Lowrie | Fridays | 6pm

Hosted by BJC Teaching fellow Andy Lowrie, the featured book will be On Jewellery by Liesbeth den Besten. The first meeting will cover the first two chapters of the book, Introduction and The Meaning of Jewellery, pages 6-32. Each participant should have their own copy of the book.

If you love making and seeing contemporary jewelry and metalwork, you probably love reading and talking about it too. To satisfy those desires and give you some food for thought when you're not at the bench, the BJC is starting a book club! Meeting once a month, we invite you to come together to discuss a selection of insightful texts from the field. Our first pick is Liesbeth den Besten's seminal work, On Jewellery: A Compendium of International Contemporary Art Jewellery.

This is a go-to book for anyone interested in 'contemporary' or 'art' jewellery from the 1960s to today, dissecting trends in art, jewelry and society. This book will be divided evenly across the first 5 months of Book Club to allow for in-depth discussion and a manageable monthly reading load. The Book Club will be facilitated by Andy Lowrie, BJC instructor. Join us for a social evening of stimulating conversation!

Participants will need a secure internet connection as this book club will meet via Zoom.

Book Club costs are on a sliding scale for $10, $25, and $40. $40 will sponsor another member of the BJC community to join the Book Club. If these price points do not work for you, or of you want to sponsor more than one spot, email us at info@baltimorejewelrycenter.org.
