In this course, students will learn to combine the process of waxworking and casting with stone setting, using specific precious, semi-precious, and lab-grown stones that can withstand the high heat of casting. Students will work with hard and soft waxes, learning the basics of carving and sculpting models to create simple stone settings. Designing jewelry with stones, methods for building settings, and cleaning the finished castings will be discussed.

Prerequisite: Waxworking 1 or equivalent experience.

Material kit provided. Registration includes a $50 materials fee.

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
