In this 12 week course, students will learn the fundamentals of box fabrication. This includes the use of box scoring tools, creating precise angles, soldering, and hinge and catch mechanisms. Students will also learn how to use the hydraulic press to form a locket. This is a great course for students looking to advance their soldering and fabrication skills, and to work within small object and jewelry formats. It is an advanced fabrication course but is designed to help students break down complex projects into manageable stages of production. The course will be led by 2 instructional projects that break down the locket and the box into step-by-step stages. Within each project there will be opportunity for students to personalize their work with texture, decorative piercing and stone setting but the focus of the class will be on building technical proficiency so that they can attempt future projects with confidence.

Prerequisite: Metals + Jewelry 1 or equivalent experience

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
