Electroplating metal is a fast and easy way to radically change the appearance of jewelry. Working with samples and existing pieces of jewelry, students will learn the basics of electroplating as a surface treatment for jewelry. In addition to the process of electroplating, a variety of surface treatments will be covered including resists and sgraffito. Students will have the opportunity to electroplate with nickel and silver in class, and will learn how to set up their own baths for plating with gold. No experience necessary.
Tuition and fee for classes at the Baltimore are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to encourage more donations and subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
