French for 'raised field', champlevé is an enamel inlay technique. A design is cut or etched into the metal and filled with powdered enamel that is then fused in place. The enamel is polished to the level of the surrounding metal, creating a smooth and seamless surface. At the end of the class, students will have 2 completed pendants. Prerequisite: Metals & Jewelry 1 or equivalent training.

Tuition and fees for classes at the Baltimore Jewelry Center are subsidized in large part by grants and contributions from our community. The rate that we charge for each class covers only 60% of the true cost to run the class. In an effort to more equitably fund our classes and encourage more donations to subsidize our programs, we are now pricing classes on a sliding scale. If you are able to do so, please consider paying a higher rate for your class. The difference you pay will be considered a donation and you will be issued a donation receipt.
